Upcoming programs:
January – Back by popular demand, Patti Carey from Northcott returns for Finishing School – How to get those quilts done for the quilt show. The quilt show is coming up (well okay, next year) and your quilt is still a pile of blocks. Use Patti’s quick tips and tricks on everything from settings and borders to quilting and binding to get those quilts done and hanging in the show.
February – Martha Schellingerhoud will be doing a trunk show featuring approximately 25 of the 70 quilts she has made during her quilting career. During the course of the presentation you will be taken on a journey of all of Martha’s noteworthy quilt projects over the years to observe the development in her skills. Included in Martha’s presentation will be her collection of miniature quilts and a brief demonstration outlining her technique of quilting full size bed quilts on a regular household machine. To learn more about Martha and view some of her quilts go to http://s2.webstarts.com/MarthaSchellingerhoudQuilts/index.html
March – MQG past presidents speak to our members and give their reflective perspective of the Guild, and will talk about some of their favourite quilting projects.
April – Janet Slater Trunk Show and Wonderfil Threads discussion. Janet Slater’s Trunk Show of quilts and vests, the oldest one being one that is pre-WW1; some will showcase the Square in a Square technique, others are miniature landscapes. Janet will also bring some vests featuring Wonderfil threads and can discuss some of the lines that Wonderfil carries if there is sufficient time.
Upcoming workshops:
January – Johanna Masko Easy and Painless Double Wedding Ring – This workshop is full and all participants should have received their class preparation and “to bring” list.
February – Martha Schellingerhoud Quilting in Sections – This amazing technique will allow you to quilt large quilts on a regular household sewing machine. Three variations will be taught. Two of these techniques are done so that the finished quilt has no visible sign of being quilted in sections. Various quilts that have been quilted with these methods will be available to see. Other places that these applications could be used will also be explored. Handouts for further reference will be available. It is my hope that this workshop will be both fun and informative for you. Knowledge of machine quilting is a pre-requisite.
March – Heather Stewart Colour for Quilters - all skill levels – Members were so interested in Heather’s Colour Harmony presentation in September that there was high demand for a full day colour workshop with her. “Do you have difficulty combining colours or selecting fabrics for your quilting projects? With guidance you will develop a colour workbook exploring colour principles and the colour wheel using swatches of fabric.”
April – Heather Black applique – more info to come. Stay tuned.
May – Janet Slater’s Miniature Landscape Quilt – This landscape course is not your average cookie cutter course. Everyone will complete a unique different picture. A picture frame will complete your project at the end of the class. The instructor will supply different landscape fabric as well as the background fabric. As each student’s picture will be totally different, we will learn different techniques depending on the individual’s picture. The students will learn to expand their ideas and will leave this class with new ideas and confidence to make many more projects.
