May – Sandra Reford - “Inspiration”  – The theme of Sandra’s talk will be INSPIRATION. Making your quilt your own is something Sandra has always advocated. Her students feel inspired and produce one-of-a-kind quilts even when using the same block! She will bring her quilts and textile art pieces to illustrate her points.

June – Janet Rhind’s Trunk Show – Janet’s presentation showcases her journey from beginner quilter to the Fibre Artist she is today.  She will showcase a variety of wearable art, large quilts, wall hangings, framed pieces and dolls. We’ll get lots of tips and information from her experience. And a Fashion Show – members will have the opportunity to model her wearable art.

November 2012Sandra Reford - “Beyond the Hobby Quilter” Sandra will draw on her experiences in promoting her work to share the ways she has been able to increase her exposure to get noticed and noted. She’ll get you thinking of ways you can do the same including some venues where you can showcase your work and will show some of her quilts and textile art works to accompany her points.

Upcoming workshops:

May  – Janet Slater’s Miniature Landscape Quilt  – This landscape course is not your average cookie cutter course. Everyone will complete a unique different picture.  A picture frame will complete your project at the end of the class. The instructor will supply different landscape fabric as well as the background fabric. As each student’s picture will be totally different, we will learn different techniques depending on the individual’s picture.  The students will learn to expand their ideas and will leave this class with new ideas and confidence to make many more projects.

June  Martha Schellingerhoud Quilting in Sections Encore   This amazing technique will allow you to quilt large quilts on a regular household sewing machine. Three variations will be taught.  Two of these techniques are done so that the finished quilt has no visible sign of being quilted in sections. Various quilts that have been quilted with these methods will be available to see.  Other places that these applications could be used will also be explored.  Handouts for further reference will be available.  Knowledge of machine quilting is a pre-requisite. See our blog post about the February workshop.

2012 – 2013

September 2012Janet Rhind “Making a Quilted Vest or Jacket” – Janet will guide participants in making a piece of wearable art that you will be proud to wear. Participants can bring their own pattern (no pockets or darts keeps it simple). See the Workshops table for pictures and more information.

October 2012 – “Advanced Machine Applique” with Heather Black – more info to follow.  Our April Machine Applique with Heather Black was a resounding success and requests were made for a follow-on workshop.

November 2012 Martha Schellingerhoud “Stripping the Beauty” – In this workshop you will learn the technique of strip paper piecing.  If you enjoy paper piecing you will love strip paper piecing.  If you are new to paper piecing, learn the technique along with the enhanced addition of doing it in strips. You will be making a variation of a New York beauty while learning this method.  Pattern with detailed instructions included. This one is selling out fast – don’t delay if you’re interested.

January 2013 – Mini Retreat in Mississauga – stay tuned!!

February 2013 – Sandra Reford “Scrappy Four-Patch” – During this workshop, we will be making a simple 4-patch block using ONLY your scraps from other quilt-making projects. No buying fabric for this class!! The class will touch on design and colour as well as time-saving and accuracy-sewing tips.
