Community Outreach Quilts (CORE)

Community Outreach is a very important part of the Mississauga Quilters’ Guild’s “Mission Statement”. It is often through CORE that new members increase quilting skills and foster each other`s talents. Each person involved grows as a person. They begin to realize just how much our lives touch others and how others’ lives touch our own. In giving to those in need we are given back in thankfulness more than we can imagine. Each one of us will need someone to reach out and touch our lives with love.

How we do this is through monthly workshops, usually on a weekday. Here we cut fabrics into interesting patterns for quilt tops, play with color, decide on colors that blend; sandwich fronts, batting and backing to be put together to make a lovely quilt. Many also use this time to sew quilts together. Help is always there for the asking. We learn from each other to be better quilters. Many kits, tops and sandwiched quilts are prepared for each monthly meeting so that members can come to the Core Workshop Tables to take these home to work on and return at the next monthly meeting.

There are always beautiful finished quilts to be touched and enjoyed, and to give each of us inspiration for future quilts. Many who are unable to come to CORE WORKSHOPS take kits or sandwiched quilts home to be finished in their quilting bees or in their own (peaceful) quilting rooms. Members of CORE are always near to help when quilting problems come up or support is needed. We want it to be an enjoyable learning opportunity.

By the end of each year we have touched the lives of others with love and support. We`ve given quilts to the very, very young, babies, children, teens, young adults, adults and seniors needing support and love. Join us for some wonderful experiences.
